CENTURION Mk5/1

CENTURION Mk5/1 169016 NVVM 2014

169016 is a Centurion Mk5/1 (Aus) on display at the National Vietnam Veterans Museum on Phillip Island. This tank is not a Vietnam veteran, but it has been put together to show the various modifications applied locally and in-country for that conflict. The chap responsible for restoring the tank, Col Filtness, goes to some lengths to make it clear that this tank does not depict any particular combat veteran and that no tank appeared with all these modifications at any one time. They were added progressively as the tours in Vietnam unfolded and a specific vehicle may have had only a few of these mods done. It's worth noting that some of the items, particularly the barrel fume extractor, .30 cal machine gun and mount and IR lamp bracket. You can see the progression of the tank's resto and some more onfo at Col's NVVM website: http://vvmuseum.synthasite.com/
